B i o g r a p h y

Ben Baron joined the Orquesta Sinfónica del Estado de México (OSEM) as second bassoonist in 2013. Mr. Baron received his Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School in 2012 having studied with Patricia Rogers. At Juilliard, he performed with The Juilliard Orchestra and the school’s contemporary music ensembles, Axiom and the New Juilliard Ensemble. Prior to joining the OSEM, he was a freelance musician in the New York area, performing with NOVUS NY, Ensemble 212, the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Notturna and the Chelsea Symphony.

In 2012, Mr. Baron performed the Mozart Bassoon Concerto with the Chelsea Symphony and gave a solo recital in New York’s Paul Hall. He may be heard on the Grammy winning CD “Centennial: Newly Discovered Works of Gil Evans,” which was picked by the New York Times as one of the top 10 albums of 2012.

Raised in New Jersey, Mr. Baron began studying bassoon at the age of nine. A graduate of Juilliard Pre-College under Marc Goldberg, he has attended the Colorado College, Kent/Blossom and Atlantic Music Festivals. Additional studies include Mannes College The New School for Music with Leonard Hindell and at the Manhattan School of Music with Kim Laskowski. Mr. Baron currently resides in Toluca, Mexico.
